Pet Bereavement and Loss Counselling
The loss and grief of a pet is an incredibly difficult time and is just as painful as the loss of a human loved one. You may experience that it feels worse than losing another person. Pet loss is often not understood in society, and there is a general view that its not as difficult, that people should ‘get over’ it much more quickly than the loss of a human.
I am here to tell you that this perception is very wrong, and this comes from a deep lack of understanding of pet bereavement but also grief in general. Your animal, pet, best friend is very significant to your life. You may arrange your whole day around them such as getting up in the morning to walk and feed them. You may take them to a dog sitter, dog walker, day care or take them to work with you. They are your family and go everywhere with you.
Symptoms of Pet Bereavement:
-
Difficulty sleeping
-
Intense Sadness
-
Anxiety
-
Lack of motivation
-
Anger
-
Guilt
These feelings are very normal, however are also very distressing. Grief is not about ‘getting over it’, we don’t get over loss. We get through it with support, by talking about our loved one, and remembering them in our own way.
I am a Grief Specialist and run a Grief Counselling Service for a charity, I have been helping people with their grief for many years. I will be that kind, caring voice to support you through this difficult time and for you to feel validated.
There is no time frame on grief, however in 6-12 sessions you will be able to start to process your grief and be able to live a more positive life but never forgetting your special companion.
I am here to take that journey with you.
