What is counselling? 

  • A talking therapy that involves a trained therapist who will listen to you and help support you to find ways to positively deal with emotional issues.
     

  • It is a process where an individual, couple or family meet with a trained professional counsellor to talk about issues and problems that they are facing in their lives. Professional counselling is confidential and non-judgmental.
     

  • Therapy provides a safe and confidential space. Your therapist will help you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours so you can develop a better understanding of yourself and of others.

What to expect:

  • After you have had your free consultation and have decided to have therapy, we will meet for a first session where I will ask you some questions to find out more about you and what goals or expectations you have from therapy. 
     

  • Sessions will last for 50 minutes, which will usually take place once per week. 
     

  • I will provide a safe space with warmth and comfort, everything we discuss is completely confidential unless there is any safety concerns.
     

  • You will be provided with a counselling contract which explains how sessions work and our terms and conditions. 

How will counselling benefit me?

  • Counselling provides a safe space with someone outside of your circumstances to provide impartial support, sometimes we feel we can’t talk to our friends and family and having someone external can be very beneficial.
     

  • The counselling sessions are all about you, your counsellor is not going to interrupt you or talk about themselves.
     

  • The sessions are your time to discuss what’s happening in life for you.
     

  • It helps manage stress and anxiety, develop positive coping mechanisms. 
     

  • Creates self-awareness, allows you to learn things about yourself and find positive ways of processing this new information.
     

  • Helps strengthen your relationships.
     

  • Gives you a voice.
